THE INTERNATIONAL MATCH. The _firht _match worthy _the above _name between picked _twenties of tlie two _countries cams off _yesterday m the Academy _Cricket _Ground, _-iiaebum _Place_, and _was in every _respect a _HUCCC-IS _. _"With the exception of a _sliaht breeze _from tho _north-east _, so trifling that it hardly made any _difference to the _players , the _weather _was delightful _. The _ground for the players was _all roped _inthe line nearest the _pavilion being _reserved for the Academical_^ and _Academy principallywhile the field and hill beyond the paling im the other _Bide was reserved fur _spectators_. Altogether it _was _estimated tliat _there were nearly 2000 _spectators_. _The _English team first put in an _appearance, and when stripped found many _friends. _They were all dress_'_-'u _alike in _white _Jersey_?, with the roae as their _badge _, white _flannel _knickerbockers_, and brown _stockings. The _Scotch team were not _long fn]- _lowuiff,_;in their dark _bine _jerseys_, their _badge, however_, not _showing so clearly as that of their opponents. When the two _teams were togetherthe _-Englishmen had certainly _moat _admirers_, and looked the heavier of the two. Their total weight was 21-1 st_. 10 Ib_.—thus _giving an average of _nearly 12 st _. :_t Ib_; to each member. Some misconception having _arisen as to the origin of the matcli, the following facts may _here by intCTesting :—Soon _after the playing of what was termed the _first of the _international _matches _for thu _scawon at London_, in _which neither _of _the teams could _be _considered fairly _representative of the _countries, _especially tlie Scotch, a _discussion (started by a _Glasgow gentleman _) arose in our _colnmna on the _subject_. One _wellintentioned _correspondent, _after _criticising _the composition of the _teams_, _suggested the _sending of _half-a-dozen of our _beet Scotch players for the return—a _suggestion _which wo need hardly say could _not have _bwn taken up if tho game were to be played by Association _rules.
